Monthly Archives: November 2010

So we hit all the big west coast hip hop scenes but now we got to make room for the rest of the country. There is a lot of good new music coming out and I hope you all are listening. I have been following a few of these artists for awhile now and others have been recently discovered through friends, blogs, and so on and so forth. I like finding great artists or songs that no one I know knows about. I like to discover, even if I discovered someone before my friends. Besides that, I really enjoy just hearing what these talented artists got in their back pockets to keep the momentum going. Hope you guys dig some of these artists too and follow them. I guess on Twitter or something cause that’s what the kids do nowadays.

I’ll keep this series going. Full Circle stands for all types of hip hop from all over. So, as I find good music, I’m gonna play it for y’all. So let’s start it up right now.

Enjoy.

For the third mix of this four mix weekend I decided to do an LA mix. It’s funny cause I’ve been moving south from Seattle to the Bay and now LA for this series. I guess I should do a Tijuana mix tomorrow. Haha, maybe next time. I really want to play some of the new stuff from the rest of the U.S. to finish this series out.

But let’s get back to talking about this LA mix. What can I say about this mix? Check it out. Praise it, criticize it, hate it, love it, whatever, at least listen to it.

Enjoy.

So like I said, 4 mixes this weekend. Here is number two. It’s appropriate that I made this mix cause the Giants just won the world series and the Bay deserves some recognition right now. So let’s give it up for the Giants cause its been a long time coming. But let’s get back to the music,

Lately, I have only been keeping up with Bay Area hip hop through friends, blogs, and the homie, Dex Beats, but I have been surprised with all the new talent that is coming out of the Bay right now. Some of it for the lyrical content and some of it for the mainstream sound that could put the Bay back on the map. Whatever it is, I hope more up and coming artists put more quality music out.

For now, enjoy.

I have been wanting to make this mix for about 9 months ever since I left Phnom Penh (Cambodia) where my homie Peanut is living/working/inspiring. You see, Peanut is from Tacoma, outside of Seattle and I decided to put this one together for him to hopefully ease the pain of homesickness that he may be having while he is out there dpoing great things with the kids at Tiny Toones Cambodia. Much love Peanut! Keep up the great work.

Before this mix, the only Seattle hip hop artists/producers I knew of were Blue Scholars, Common Market, and Jake One. I probably knew more grunge bands from Seattle than anything else. After doing a lot of research and listening to a lot of Seatle artists, I was completely amazed at how many quality hip hop artists there are in Seattle. It is pretty much the full spectrum of hip hop, from hardcore rap from artists such as Grayskul, who sound similar to Jedi Mind Tricks, to conscious rap from artists such as the Blue Scholars, who have also had success crossing over into the mainstream.

From listening to tracks from the region and reading up on Seattle hip hop, I was put on to a few albums that displayed Seattle hip hop in its early stages, including “14 Fathoms Deep,” “Classic Elements,” “Do The Math,” and “Untranslated Prescriptions.” These albums are pretty raw and I suggest everyone pick them up. At this point I feel like I have a good understanding of Seattle hip hop from the mid-1990s to the present. I have truely become a fan and will continue to keep my ears open to the great music coming out of Seattle.

Enjoy!
